Tell us a bit of random stuff about yourself (not miniature related)...
I make dolls house food, dressed furniture, room boxes, pictures, etc.
Collector, creator or both?...
Creator. I love working in 1/12 scale.
What do you specialise in?...
Food,rooms
When did you first get interested in creating miniatures and why?...
I first became interested a few years ago, my sister has a large Victorian house and I made food for her. In her opinion the food I made was as good as she had seen anywhere and said I should go for it, so I did.
Where do you create your miniatures?
I have a semi-converted loft where I work, it is just a large craft room. I have a shelved cupboard where I display my stock, but it is more of a storage place for me.
What is the oddest thing you've created?
Probably the fish
Who inspires you?...
Angie Scarr was my first inspiration as I'm sure she has inspired loads of others. Now it is magazines and books.
When your mind is blank...what inspires you?...
I don't remember it ever being blank as far as creating miniatures goes, although I sometimes just go through all my magazines and make notes for the future.
Do you do commissions and if so what sort of things do you get requested to make?...
I haven't had a commission for dolls house things. I do make cards as well and get quite a few requests for them.
What's your "other" job or is it miniatures all the way?...
I am retired now, I help take care of my Mum and my Aunt so that has taken a LOT of my time over the past 3 years. However, we have them settled and happy now so miniatures will hopefully get priority now
If you hadn't started miniatures what would you have liked to have done instead?...
I used to make funny cakes, I made about 100 over the years, they were commissions and I enjoyed doing them so perhaps funny cakes. I also liked glass painting and fancied doing stain glass till I discovered miniatures.
What does your family think of your obsession?...
They are happy I have found something I love to do, my grandchildren (2 boys) love to play with the rooms before everything is glued down.
Do you plan each creation or do you run with your imagination?...
I start with an idea then just run with it.
Do you do fairs?...
I have done a few fairs.
If you could change anything about the miniature profession, what would it be?...
If the cost of doing fairs could be less then I would go more often, you have to make such a lot selling little things it isn't worth all the work.
Pros and cons?...
I don't read books never have, isn't productive enough for me, but making something small makes me feel good and takes my mind away from 'life' around me which is sometimes good. No cons I can think of, perhaps just sourcing the little things I need
If you could create any miniature what would it be?...
I would perhaps like to recreate my living room or have a challenge to recreate something of someones choice.
Is there a miniature task/project that you’ve been putting off or procrastinating about for a long time?:
I bought a Dolls House lately for myself, it's my first. I need to wallpaper the upstairs rooms but I can't think to attempt it, not sure why.
What is your ultimate goal?...
To sell enough of my work to allow me to keep making more and trying to improve my work.
Describe yourself in 3 words...
Happy and content.
